Networks and Communication Systems

The mission of the Faculty of Networks and Communication Systems is to develop a professional environment for training personnel for the digital economy, based on the principle of involving industry companies studying in the practical activities under the guidance of leading employees of companies, university teachers and scientific research institutes.

Structure

The faculty includes 5 main departments:

  • Multichannel telecommunication systems;
  • Guiding telecommunication media;
  • Communication networks and switching systems;
  • Metrology, standardization and measurement in info-communications;
  • General theory of communication .

In addition, 2 basic departments are organized and successfully work at the faculty:

  • Fixed-line networks and systems (with PJSC “Rostelecom”);
  • Special purpose communication networks (with Russian broadcasting and warning networks).

More info

Head of the Department "Guiding Telecommunication Environments" (NTS)
Oleg Vyacheslavovich Kolesnikov was born in 1980 in Moscow. He graduated from MTUCI in 2001. In the same year, he was awarded a bachelor's degree in Engineering and Technology in the field of Telecommunications, in 2003 — a master's degree in engineering and technology in the field of Telecommunications, in 2006 — a Candidate of Technical Sciences degree, in 2023 he was awarded the academic title of associate professor.
Since December 2012, Oleg Vyacheslavovich has worked as a senior lecturer at the NTS department, in November 2020 he became an associate professor of the department, since 2021 he has been acting, and in September 2023 he was elected by the Academic Council of MTUCI to the position of head of the NTS department. Oleg Vyacheslavovich's scientific and pedagogical experience has been going on since 2012.

Oleg Vyacheslavovich Kolesnikov's research interests include optical and quantum communications, quantum physics, signal transmission theory, economics, business and interpersonal communication, and his scientific works include research on protection from lightning impacts on optical communication lines in the Far North, the development of quantum key distribution technology in wired and atmospheric communication channels, research on the prospects for the development of single photon sources in CRK systems. In 2021, he co-authored the monograph "The effectiveness of VOLS. Assessment and ways of improvement". In 2023, the textbook "Fiber optics and measurements in telecommunication systems" was co-authored.

Promising areas of scientific research are the development of KRK technology, the development and adaptation of avalanche detection methods for detecting single photons, the search for effective solutions for the implementation of a quantum random number generator, the creation of a university stand for the study of KRK technology and its registration in the federal register of unique scientific installations.

During Oleg Vyacheslavovich Kolesnikov's work as the head of the NTS department, the department was rejuvenated, modern scientific and laboratory equipment was purchased, the master's program "Quantum Communications" and the bachelor's program "Optical and Quantum Communications" were launched, 3 WorldSkills championships (Young Professionals) in the field of "Quantum Technologies" were held, where he acted as the chief expert. The university held events to promote the field of "Quantum Communications" — excursions, lectures, "Engineering vacations" and "University Saturdays". Oleg Vyacheslavovich conducts lectures on the topic of "Quantum Communications" for the Russian School Movement, completed advanced training on the job at Innopolis University, MISIS, and was directly involved in the organization and launch of the MTUCI Quantum Center.

Oleg Vyacheslavovich was one of the organizers of the demonstration of the first interuniversity ecosystem quantum network in October 2021, actively participates in attracting industrial partners to interact with the university (QRate, Sedatek, Infotex, ABN), represented MTUCI at the Army–2021 and 2022 exhibitions, participated in discussions of the Defense Ministry Commission on Innovative Projects and Technologies and spoke at the final Commission in 2021 and the round table on Quantum technologies in 2022.
